Most cloud incidents stem from configuration abuse, not zero-days. Public storage, abandoned keys, and open network policies create short paths to data.
Pattern one: public access to object storage or snapshots. Enforce continuous scanning and org-level deny-public policies.
Pattern two: excessive IAM. Replace wildcard roles and long-lived keys with least privilege, temporary roles, and secret rotation.
Pattern three: missing logs. Without CloudTrail or equivalent activity logs, cloud breach investigation is nearly impossible. Keep logs in a separate, deletion-protected account.
Preventive guardrails (SCPs, Azure Policy, Organization Policy) are cheaper than post-leak cleanup. Install them before account/project count explodes.
In cloud assessments Hoxy closes these three patterns first, then moves to network, encryption, and workloads for the fastest risk reduction.
